Four Freedoms Park (Louis Kahn design, FDR Memorial)

Four Freedoms Park on the southern tip of Roosevelt Island is a memorial to President Franklin D. Roosevelt based on a design by architect Louis Kahn; the park opened to the public in 2012 after a decades-long effort to realize Kahn's plan. The park's axial granite plaza, raised platform, and single-surrounded plane are intended to evoke Kahn's modernist memorial design and to commemorate Roosevelt's Four Freedoms speech. The site is managed as a public park and hosts ceremonies and visits tied to presidential and civic remembrance. It is sited at the island's southern point facing Manhattan.
