Palace of the Legion of Honor

The Legion of Honor museum opened in 1924 in Lincoln Park and was designed by George Applegarth as a three-quarter-scale replica of the Palais de la Légion d'Honneur in Paris. Established as a war memorial and gift to the city, it houses collections of European paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts. The museum campus includes a prominent bronze cast of Auguste Rodin's The Thinker overlooking the plaza.
