Lincoln Memorial - architect Henry Bacon

The Lincoln Memorial was designed by architect Henry Bacon in a neoclassical style modeled after a Greek Doric temple. The memorial's 36 exterior columns represent the states in the Union at the time of Lincoln's death. Bacon's design was selected in the early 20th century and the memorial was dedicated in 1922 to honor President Abraham Lincoln.
