Faneuil Hall ('Cradle of Liberty')

Faneuil Hall was built in 1742 with funds from merchant Peter Faneuil and has served as a combined marketplace and public meeting hall in downtown Boston. It became a prominent 18th-century forum for public speeches and debates by patriots such as Samuel Adams and is popularly called the 'Cradle of Liberty.' The building forms part of the larger Faneuil Hall Marketplace/Quincy Market complex and is interpreted as a historic site.
