Leota Plantation

Leota Plantation, established in 1825 by Isaac Worthington in Washington County, Mississippi, was a significant forced-labor farm along the Mississippi River. It served as both a plantation and a small town, featuring a mansion, stores, a post office, a school, and a church. The plantation was strategically located on a shipping route, enhancing its importance in the region. However, it faced destruction from floods, first losing its mansion in 1883 and ultimately being completely submerged in 1930. Today, visitors can still find remnants of its history, including an old cemetery and the nearby Worthington Island, named in honor of the plantation.
