Birdland (jazz club)

Birdland, named for saxophonist Charlie 'Bird' Parker, originally opened in 1949 and became known as one of New York City's premier jazz clubs. The club has hosted leading jazz figures such as Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, and Thelonious Monk and has been celebrated in jazz histories as 'The Jazz Corner of the World.' The current Birdland club operates at 315 West 44th Street and continues to present nightly jazz performances and special engagements.
