Old State House (Dover, Delaware)

The Old State House, located on The Green in Dover, Delaware, is a historic state capitol building constructed between 1787 and 1792 in the Middle Georgian style. This elegant brick structure features a fanlight above the entrance and a striking Palladian window on the second floor, topped with an octagonal cupola. It served as the sole seat of state government until 1932 and was also a courthouse for Kent County. The building has undergone several renovations, including a Victorian remodel in 1873 and a restoration to its original appearance in 1976. Now part of the Delaware National Historic Park, it offers free tours and stands as a testament to Delaware's rich legislative history, including the reading of the Declaration of Independence and the ratification of the Federal Constitution, marking Delaware as the First State.
