California Academy of Sciences living roof

The California Academy of Sciences, rebuilt and reopened in 2008, features a 2.5-acre living roof planted with native species that tops the museum structure in Golden Gate Park. The planted roof includes undulating hills and paths that create elevated, gardened sightlines over the park and toward the city skyline that are not visible from surrounding streets. The living roof is an integrated exhibit and ecological feature of the museum and is accessible to visitors during museum hours.
