Old Point Loma Lighthouse (Cabrillo National Monument)

The Old Point Loma Lighthouse was constructed in 1855 on the Point Loma headland and served as an active lighthouse until it was decommissioned in 1891 due to its high elevation causing fog to obscure the light. The preserved lighthouse and keeper's quarters are part of Cabrillo National Monument and are interpreted as a historic site open to visitors. The structure is often cited in accounts of early maritime navigation on the West Coast.
