Al Capone's cell at Eastern State Penitentiary

Eastern State Penitentiary, at 2027 Fairmount Avenue, opened in 1829 and later housed notable inmates including Al Capone in the late 1920s. Capone's cell and solitary confinement areas remain part of the site’s exhibits. Individual cells contain small inscriptions, graffiti, and personal marks that are often overlooked by visitors focusing on the penitentiary’s larger ruined facades and cellblocks.
