Megatron (building)

The Megatron was a uniquely designed restaurant located near Alconbury, Cambridgeshire, England, known for its flying saucer shape and innovative features like touchscreen ordering. Opened in 1990, it initially attracted attention from locals who mistook it for a UFO. Aimed at American airmen from the nearby RAF Alconbury, it offered a menu that accepted both British pounds and US dollars. After closing in 1992 due to high costs, it was briefly taken over by McDonald's, becoming a novelty location until its closure in the early 2000s. Despite efforts to preserve it, the building was demolished in 2008. The Megatron has since gained cultural significance, appearing in various media and art projects, symbolizing lost landmarks and the nostalgia of unique architectural designs.
