Cliveden (Chew House) - Battle of Germantown site

Cliveden, also known as the Chew House, is a 1763 mansion at this address that was the focal point of intense fighting during the Battle of Germantown on October 4, 1777. The house's stone walls were used defensively by British troops and the site preserves visible bullet scars and battlefield landscape features interpreted by historians. Over time Cliveden has been the subject of local battlefield lore and ghost-story traditions, which are treated as folklore alongside documented military history.
