Convent de Bon Secours

The Convent de Bon Secours, located in the Tenleytown neighborhood of Washington, D.C., is an early-20th century historic residence that has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places since 2004. Founded by the Congregation of the Sisters of Bon Secours in France in 1824, the Sisters arrived in the U.S. in the 1880s and provided crucial healthcare during epidemics, including a typhoid outbreak in 1905 and the Spanish flu after World War I. The convent, constructed between 1927 and 1928 in Italianate style, features a distinctive design by architect Maurice F. Moore, including a main dormitory, chapel, and loggias reminiscent of a Renaissance cloister, making it a notable site for both tourists and researchers interested in healthcare history and architectural design.
