El Cortez Hotel (Cortez Hill)

The El Cortez opened in 1927 as a luxury hotel and for many years was the tallest building in San Diego, defining the Cortez Hill skyline. Its Spanish Revival architecture and rooftop sign have long been neighborhood landmarks. The building has been adaptively reused and remains a prominent historic feature of downtown San Diego.
