Menger Hotel (Rough Riders recruiting and hauntings)

The Menger Hotel, established in 1859 adjacent to the Alamo, is one of San Antonio's oldest continuously operating hotels and a focal point of local ghost lore. It is historically documented that Theodore Roosevelt recruited members of the Rough Riders at the Menger Bar in 1898. Over decades staff and guests have reported apparitions and unexplained sounds, and the hotel is regularly included in published lists of haunted locations in San Antonio.
