Jastro Building

The Jastro Building, also known as the Standard Oil Building, is a historic office building located in downtown Bakersfield, California. Constructed in the early 20th century, it showcases the late-Second Renaissance Revival architectural style and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The building features a unique 'C' shaped first floor and an 'H' shaped second floor, with elegant design elements such as vertical casement windows and a distinctive porch. Historically significant as the first commercial building in the downtown area across G Street, it played a key role in the Standard Oil Company's operations in Kern County, particularly during the oil boom. Remarkably, it survived the 1952 Kern County earthquake with minimal damage, making it one of the finest examples of its architectural style in the region.
