Menkemaborg

Menkemaborg is a historic house museum located in Uithuizen, Groningen, Netherlands, originally built in the 14th century and transformed around 1700. The mansion features beautifully decorated interiors with baroque chimney-pieces and mythological paintings, along with fully furnished rooms showcasing 17th and 18th-century artifacts. The meticulously reconstructed gardens, designed in the early 18th century, include a walled pleasure garden, a sundial garden, and a kitchen garden with ancient apple trees. Visitors can explore the rich history of Groningen's aristocracy and enjoy the picturesque surroundings of the mansion and its tree-shaded moat. Open to the public since 1927, Menkemaborg is managed by the Stichting Museum Menkemaborg and houses a collection primarily from the Groninger Museum, reflecting the region's noble heritage.
