Lamar High School (named for Mirabeau B. Lamar)

Lamar High School in Houston is named for Mirabeau B. Lamar, the second president of the Republic of Texas who promoted public education in the 1830s. The school opened in 1936 and is part of the Houston Independent School District. Lamar remains one of the city's long-established public high schools with a historic campus and alumni presence in Houston.
