Iowa Canning Company Seed House Building

The Iowa Canning Company Seed House Building, located in Vinton, Iowa, is a historic industrial site recognized for its significance as the first corn canning operation west of the Mississippi River in the 1890s. Established in 1885, it has undergone various name changes, including S.H. Watson Canning Company and Cedar Valley Packing Company. At its peak before World War I, the facility employed 250 workers and produced over 3 million cans annually. Although it faced challenges from a flood in 2008 and a windstorm in 2011, much of the building has been restored. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012, making it a notable destination for tourists and researchers interested in industrial history.
