Michigan Central Station basement and rail tunnels with persistent water intrusion

Michigan Central Station (abandoned 1988; major rehabilitation begun after Ford's 2018 acquisition) contains extensive subbasements and former rail access tunnels. Since the station's closure these subterranean spaces have exhibited groundwater seepage and standing water in documented photos, urban exploration reports, and contractor remediation plans. Renovation efforts have included addressing water infiltration, sump systems, and structural stabilization of the station's below-grade areas. The underground spaces historically served baggage handling, mechanical systems, and connections to rail platforms.
