Texas State Capitol constructed of 'Sunset Red' granite

Completed in 1888, the Texas State Capitol at 1100 Congress Ave was built from 'Sunset Red' granite quarried near Marble Falls and features a large central dome. The building rises higher than the United States Capitol and houses the offices of the Governor and the Texas Legislature. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a prominent 19th-century public building in Austin.
