Foster Auditorium

Foster Auditorium, located at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, is a historic multi-purpose facility built in 1939 as part of a Works Progress Administration project. It has served various functions, including hosting basketball games, graduations, and concerts. Notably, it was the site of Governor George Wallace's infamous 'Stand in the Schoolhouse Door' in 1963, a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights Movement, which led to the integration of the university. The auditorium was declared a National Historic Landmark in 2005 and underwent major renovations in 2009, after which it resumed hosting women's basketball and volleyball. Visitors can also explore the Malone-Hood Plaza, dedicated to the first black students to enroll at the university.
