Lakeside School - where Gates and Allen met and programmed

Lakeside School is the private Seattle high school where Bill Gates and Paul Allen met as students and gained early access to computing time via a Teletype terminal and timesharing arrangements organized by the school. The Lakeside Programmers Club allowed students to write and run programs on remote systems in the late 1960s and early 1970s, providing the pair with formative hands-on experience. That experience is widely cited in biographies of Gates and Allen as a pivotal early step toward their later founding of Microsoft.
