La Villita's WPA-restored courtyards and artist alleys

La Villita Historic Arts Village was rehabilitated by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s and contains narrow lanes, small interior courtyards, and artist studios that are not always visible from Main Plaza. The site preserves early San Antonio building forms and now hosts galleries, workshops, and seasonal events in tucked-away outdoor rooms. The village's compact layout creates quieter, semi-private spaces for crafts and exhibitions behind and between the street-facing storefronts.
