Roberts Clinic

Roberts Clinic, established in 1937 in Austin, Texas, is a significant historic site as the first medical facility dedicated exclusively to American Black patients. Designed by architect John R. Bingham in the Colonial Revival style, the clinic provided essential healthcare services during a time of racial segregation, including treatment for various illnesses, minor surgeries, and maternity care. Founded by Dr. Edward L. Roberts, the clinic served the community until 1967 and is now recognized on the National Register of Historic Places for its role in ethnic heritage and medicine.
