Upper Boat Studios

Upper Boat Studios, located in the village of Upper Boat near Pontypridd, Wales, was a significant television studio complex leased to the BBC in 2006. Originally a seat belt manufacturing factory, it was transformed to support the production of the iconic series Doctor Who and its spin-offs. The studios featured extensive facilities, including six sound stages, a large props store, and video editing suites, making it ten times larger than the previous BBC Wales site. Although Doctor Who was the last major production at Upper Boat, the studios continued to be used for other projects, such as Sherlock, until 2013. The site is a notable landmark for fans of British television and offers a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes world of popular series.
