Thurmond House (Gibsland, Louisiana)

The Thurmond House, located near Gibsland in Bienville Parish, Louisiana, is a historic home built in the 1850s, showcasing classic Greek Revival architecture. This five-bay hewn frame house features a central hall plan and a rear 'L' wing, with clapboarding that was updated around 1900. Notable architectural elements include a front gallery, an original front door with transom and sidelights, and one surviving mantel. The house, which has two of its original four chimneys, was constructed by the Thurmond family, early settlers of the area, and remained in their lineage until at least 1980. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in Louisiana's history.
