Fort Mason - San Francisco Port of Embarkation in World War II

Fort Mason served as a primary U.S. Army embarkation point for troops and materiel bound for the Pacific Theater during World War II, operating as part of the San Francisco Port of Embarkation. Troop ships and cargo vessels loaded at Fort Mason piers, making it a critical logistical hub for U.S. military operations in the Pacific. The site’s military facilities and piers were heavily utilized between 1941 and 1945. Today the former fort is the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture, preserving many of the historic buildings.
