Ahrens Building

The Ahrens Building is a historic seven-story Romanesque Revival structure located in Manhattan's Civic Center. Designed by architect George Henry Griebel, it features a unique blend of polychrome brickwork, terra cotta, and metal over a limestone base. Built in the late 19th century, the building was originally developed by liquor store owner Herman F. Ahrens after a municipal project threatened his properties. It became a New York City Landmark in 1992 and has a rich history, including renovations that transformed its upper floors into office space while the ground floor has hosted various bars and restaurants since the 1960s, making it a vibrant spot for both tourists and locals.
