Shell House (Johannesburg)

Shell House, located at 51 Plein Street in Johannesburg, served as the former headquarters of South Africa's African National Congress (ANC), which has been in power since 1994. Donated by the oil company Shell, this building is historically significant as the site of the Shell House massacre on March 28, 1994, where ANC security guards opened fire on a crowd of rival supporters, resulting in nineteen deaths. The ANC moved its headquarters to Luthuli House in 1997, but Shell House remains a notable landmark in the city's political history.
