Fisk University and the Fisk Jubilee Singers

Fisk University is a historically Black university in Nashville founded in 1866. The Fisk Jubilee Singers formed at the school in 1871 and toured nationally and internationally to raise funds for the university while popularizing African American spirituals. Jubilee Hall on the Fisk campus, completed in 1876, is one of the oldest surviving collegiate buildings for African Americans and is listed as a National Historic Landmark.
