Palings Building

The Palings Building is a heritage-listed retail structure located at 86 Queen Street in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Designed by architect Richard Gailey and constructed between 1885 and 1919, it was originally part of a row of four identical buildings, of which only two remain today. The building is notable for its Italianate architectural style and has been preserved for its historical significance, particularly as the long-time home of Paling & Co., a prominent music retailer that operated from 1888 to 1986. The building features intricate plaster ceilings, a timber passenger lift, and a distinctive facade that contributes to the streetscape of Queen Street. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register in 1992, highlighting its importance in showcasing Queensland's cultural heritage and architectural history.
