Hotel Fremantle

Hotel Fremantle, a historic building located on High Street, was constructed in 1899 during the Western Australian gold boom. Designed by the local firm Wilkinson and Smith, this three-storey hotel originally featured bedrooms, public bars, a billiard room, and a sitting room, integrating an earlier residential structure from 1885. Recognized for its historical significance, it was classified by the National Trust of Australia in 1974 and added to the Register of National Estate in 1980. Notably, during World War II, the hotel served as a hospital with operating theatres. In 2002, it was acquired to become part of Notre Dame University, blending history with education.
