Wave Organ (acoustic shoreline sculpture)

The Wave Organ is an acoustic sculpture created by Peter Richards and George Gonzalez in 1986 that uses a series of pipes and resonant chambers to amplify the sounds of the bay. It sits on a jetty along the Marina shoreline near Fort Mason and is reached by walking from Marina Boulevard; the sounds vary with the tide and wave action. Its low profile and placement on a rocky jetty make it easy to miss from the road or from passing boats.
