William Penn statue atop Philadelphia City Hall

A gilded bronze statue of William Penn by sculptor Alexander Milne Calder crowns the tower of Philadelphia City Hall and is a prominent feature of the city's skyline. For much of the 20th century, an informal agreement prevented new buildings from exceeding the height of William Penn's hat until that practice ended with the construction of One Liberty Place in 1987. The statue sits atop the City Hall tower and is visible from multiple points across the city.
