Louis J. Bader House and Garden

The Louis J. Bader House and Garden, located in southeast Portland, Oregon, is a historic Tudor Revival style home built in 1922 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1989. Designed by DeYoung and Roald Architects, this elegant L-shaped residence features a steeply pitched roof, leaded windows, and decorative half-timbers, set on a spacious lot opposite Laurelhurst Park. Inside, visitors can admire oak and mahogany woodwork, Italian marble, and a variety of luxurious amenities including a ballroom and wine cellar. The beautifully landscaped garden, designed by landscape engineer George Otten, includes marble paths, a sundial, and a pergola, making it a serene retreat. Originally owned by lumberman Louis Bader, the house reflects the rich history of the Laurelhurst district, a residential area influenced by the vision of landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted.
