Coomanshof

Coomanshof is a historic former hofje located in Haarlem, Netherlands, originally established by the local merchant's guild in 1407. The guild house, dating back to 1644, is a charming example of occupational hofjes, similar to the nearby Brouwershofje. After the disbandment of the guilds in 1798, the property changed hands several times, notably being purchased by Adriaan Justus Enschedé in 1871, who preserved the guild house as a garden folly. In the mid-20th century, it became a vibrant meeting place for artists and intellectuals, famously known as 'Het Paradijsje' under the stewardship of writer Godfried Bomans. The city of Haarlem acquired and restored the site in 1955, and it now functions as an artist's workshop, accessible through a children's playground, making it a unique spot for visitors interested in art and history.
