The Lindens (Washington, D.C.)

The Lindens, also known as the King Hooper House, is a historic three-story house located in the Sheridan-Kalorama neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Built in 1754 in Danvers, Massachusetts, it is the oldest house in Washington and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1969. Originally a summer home for Tory shipowner Robert 'King' Hooper, the house has a rich history, including serving as a boarding house and being restored by various owners. In the 1930s, it was dismantled and transported to Washington, where it was meticulously reassembled. The house features 8,250 square feet of space, 11 fireplaces, and stunning early 19th-century Parisian wallpaper. It has welcomed around 50,000 visitors over the years, making it a fascinating site for tourists and researchers interested in American history and architecture.
