Robert and John McKee Peeples Houses

The Robert and John McKee Peeples Houses were historic adjoining homes located in Old Shawneetown, Illinois, notable for their Federal architectural style. The Robert Peeples House, built around 1819 or 1823, was the oldest brick building in the area after the demolition of earlier structures. Robert Peeples, a prominent local figure and Gallatin County Commissioner, constructed the house with luxury features, reflecting his status. In 1846, his son, John McKee Peeples, built the second house, creating a unique architectural connection between the two. Although they were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, both houses have since been demolished and were delisted in 2020, marking the end of their historical presence.
