New York Aquarium

Founded in 1896, the New York Aquarium is one of the oldest continually operating aquariums in the United States and is currently located on Coney Island. The aquarium moved to its present Surf Avenue site in 1957 and today is operated by the Wildlife Conservation Society, featuring exhibits on marine ecosystems and conservation. Its historic and ongoing public education programs have been a long-standing part of New York City's cultural and scientific institutions.
