Silver City Water Works Building

The Silver City Water Works Building, constructed in 1887, is a historic sandstone structure located in Silver City, New Mexico. It was built to establish a municipal water system, addressing the city's need for reliable drinking water and fire prevention. Notably, it is the only sandstone building from the 1800s in the area, as brick was more commonly used. Despite initial success, the water system faced challenges, leading to a legal battle and eventual takeover by East Coast investors. The building was recognized for its historical significance and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, making it a point of interest for tourists and researchers alike.
