Hueco Tanks rock art and archaeological deposits

Hueco Tanks State Historic Site contains one of the largest concentrations of Native American pictographs in Texas, with hundreds of painted panels documented by archaeologists and rock-art specialists. Scientific surveys and excavations at Hueco Tanks have recovered stone tools, ceramics, and other cultural materials indicating prehistoric use of the site by Jornada Mogollon and other regional groups over several thousand years. The site is managed to protect its archaeological resources and fragile ecological features, and access to some pictograph areas is restricted for conservation.
