Yard (Portland, Oregon)

Yard is a striking 21-story apartment building located at the Burnside Bridgehead in Portland's Kerns neighborhood. Standing at 206 feet tall, this mixed-use development features 284 apartments and ground floor retail spaces. Designed by Skylab Architecture, the building is known for its unique appearance, earning it the nickname 'Death Star.' It includes affordable studio apartments available through a lottery system. The project, which began construction in 2014, faced delays due to the Great Recession but ultimately became a notable landmark, winning an award from the American Society of Landscape Architects in 2018.
