Mount Sutro Open Space Reserve eucalyptus forest

Mount Sutro Open Space Reserve is a roughly 61‑acre urban forest dominated by non‑native eucalyptus trees, originally planted in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and now owned by UCSF. The eucalyptus stand is one of the largest contiguous forested areas within San Francisco and is frequently cited in discussions of urban forestry and habitat management. Management of the reserve, including removal or retention of eucalyptus to restore native species, has been the subject of ongoing public and scientific debate.
