Sailors' Snug Harbor (Snug Harbor Cultural Center) legends

Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden occupies the former Sailors' Snug Harbor retirement complex, founded in the 19th century to house retired seamen. Its ensemble of Greek Revival and Chinese-inspired buildings and long institutional history on Staten Island have made the site a focus for local legends and ghost-tour narratives. Storytellers and some visitors recount alleged hauntings and mysterious occurrences in the older structures, accounts that are anecdotal rather than verified by scientific evidence. The complex is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places and functions as a cultural center and park.
