The Westin St. Francis (historic Union Square hotel)

Opened in 1904 on the site of the 1906 earthquake‑destroyed Mark Hopkins mansion, the Westin St. Francis became one of San Francisco's premier hotels in the early 20th century. The hotel hosted notable civic, cultural, and celebrity guests across decades and its lobby and ballrooms have been the site of major social events. The building survived extensive damage in 1906 and was rebuilt and expanded in the following years, maintaining its historic association with Union Square hospitality.
