Farley (Culpeper County, Virginia)

Farley, a historic home near Brandy Station in Culpeper County, Virginia, was built before 1800 and originally named Sans Souci. It was renamed in honor of Maria Byrd Farley by William Champe Carter after he purchased it in 1801. The two-story, nine-bay frame dwelling features distinctive pavilions and measures 96 feet long. In 1863, it served as headquarters for Union General John Sedgwick during the Battle of Brandy Station. The property later became a family estate, with notable residents including suffragette Emily Palmer Stearns. Farley was restored and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, making it a significant site for history enthusiasts and tourists alike.
