Kubota Garden, a private-origin Japanese garden

Kubota Garden was created beginning in 1927 by Fujitaro Kubota, a Japanese immigrant landscaper, and combines Japanese garden design with Pacific Northwest plantings. Kubota and his family continued to maintain and expand the garden for decades; the site was later donated to the city and is operated as a public park. The garden is known for its ponds, winding paths, stone lanterns and mature plantings tucked into a residential Rainier Beach neighborhood.
