Fort Negley Park (Civil War fortification site)

Fort Negley is a large Civil War-era fortification built by Union forces in 1862 and is the largest inland stone fort built during the Civil War in the South. The Fort Negley Park site includes interpretive trails, reconstructed stonework, and a Civil War museum and draws historians, descendants, and battlefield visitors who travel to Nashville to study urban Civil War military history. Preservation and archaeological work at Fort Negley have been ongoing, and the site is used for educational programming and commemorations related to the war and Reconstruction-era Nashville. The park is located within Nashville's urban core and is administered by Metro Nashville Parks.
