Fenkle Street drill hall

The Fenkle Street drill hall, located in Alnwick, Northumberland, is a historically significant Grade II* listed building originally completed in 1834 as a library. It served as the headquarters for the 1st Volunteer Battalion, The Northumberland Fusiliers, in 1887 and played a crucial role during World War I when the battalion was mobilised from this site. After various transitions, including a reconstitution as the 6th (Volunteer) Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, the building now functions as offices for the Northumberland County Council Register Office, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers exploring military history and local governance.
